Functional Molecular Materials

Molecules are one of the ideal candidates for bottom up buildingstrategy of electronic devices because of the availability of a wide library of electronic functional units (switch, diode, wire, insulator) in small size. The talk gives an emphasis on molecular level switching mechanism and molecular level chemistry of functionalised organic molecules. In these examples change in electronic and magnetic properties are discussed. Low temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy is used to understand the mechanism of switching in molecular level.
