Dark Energy: The Challenge of the Millennium

Recent cosmological observations suggest that nearly 95% of the matter in the universe does not emit light and nearly 2/3 of it behaves like a fluid with negative pressure. This component, called Dark Energy, has attracted considerable amount of attention in recent years. I will describe the observational evidence for dark energy and its theoretical implications.
