This talk will take a historical look at the growth in our knowledge about the universe. Staring from ancient times when the subject was entirely dominated by speculations, the trend has changed towards having scientific proof for all the concepts about our universe. Although considerable success has been achieved, the issues are still dominated by many non-scientific ideas. This talk will end by highlighting some of the shortcomings of modern cosmology.
