Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM) invites applications for selection at the Assistant Professor level on 'tenure-track' in the areas mentioned below from Indian nationals with outstanding academic credentials, proven research capabilities as reflected by publications in journals of international repute, strong competence in developing and teaching courses in the following areas, ability to establish a vibrant research programme and passion for teaching.

Applications should be submitted online, duly following the instructions given on the website. Incomplete applications not supported by relevant documents will not be considered.The portal will start accepting online applications for the Second Phase from November 28, 2025. The processing of applications will be carried out on a regular basis. Please note that the portal will be temporarily closed for a fixed period during the processing of each phase.

Candidates with exceptional track records are encouraged to apply under "Others" category. However, IISER TVM reserves the right to not consider the applications under the “Others” category unless it is felt that there are one or more exceptional applications to consider. In case applications received under this category in a round are not considered, they will not be automatically considered for the next round.

Interviews under the rolling advertisement will be conducted in a phased but continuous manner. The sub-areas that get filled with suitable candidates may be deactivated.

Assistant Professor (Grade I) Minimum Qualifications:
DESIGNATION AND PAY ELIGIBILITY AND EXPERIENCE
Assistant Professor (Grade I)
Pay Level 12 Cell 1 with minimum pay of Rs. 1,01,500 + HRA + travel allowance + pension benefits under New Pension Scheme (NPS) of Govt. of India. (Gross salary will be approximately Rs. 1,62,905/- per month, excluding HRA).
PhD with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with a very good academic record throughout. Three years of Industrial/Research/ Teaching experience, excluding the duration of PhD. Age preferably below 35 years.

General Guidelines Assistant Professor (Grade I)

  1. The appointment as a Faculty Member will be governed by the NIT (Amendment) Act - 2012 (National Institute Technology Science Education Research (NITSER) Act) and its amendments from time to time and as per the provisions of the IISER Statutes. As per ‘Tenure-Track System’, the appointment at the level of Assistant Professor at IISER TVM is on contract for five years. At the end of this period, the faculty candidate will be assessed for the position of Associate Professor by a selection committee. The successful candidate will be offered tenure, i.e., a permanent position. If the assessment by the selection committee does not result in the appointment as an Associate Professor, the contract term may be extended for two more years in the same grade.
  2. Reservations will be as per the prevailing Government of India norms and as applicable to IISERs.
  3. Valid category certificate should be uploaded, if applicable.
  4. Candidates working in Government Organizations/Institutions/Universities/Public Sector Undertakings should submit a no-objection certificate.
  5. No enquiries of any kind in regard to the selections will be entertained.
  6. The institute reserves the right to screen and call only those candidates deemed suitable for presentations followed by interviews. The eligibility criteria are only a bare minimum, and mere fulfilment of the same will not entitle any candidate to be called for an interview.
  7. The institute reserves the right not to fill any vacancy advertised without any reason. The institute also reserves the right to stop accepting applications in specific sub-areas or disciplines at any point in time. The decision of the Institute in all matters shall be final and binding. Legal disputes, if any, shall be settled in the Court of Law only within the jurisdiction of Thiruvananthapuram.

Assistant Professor (Grade II) Minimum Qualifications:
DESIGNATION AND PAY ELIGIBILITY AND EXPERIENCE
Assistant Professor Grade II Level 10 Cell 8, (Gross salary will be approximately Rs. 1,11,750/- per month, excluding HRA). Additional increments commensurate with credentials will be considered. Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with consistently very good academic record throughout. Age preferably below 30 years.

Assistant Professor Grade II: Areas of Specialisation

General Guidelines Assistant Professor (Grade II)

  1. Reservations will be as per the prevailing Government of India norms as applicable to IISERs.
  2. A valid category certificate should be uploaded, if applicable.
  3. Candidates working in Government Organizations/Institutions/Universities/Public sector undertakings should submit a no-objection certificate.
  4. No enquiries of any kind in regard to the selections will be entertained.
  5. The interview committee reserves the right to recommend pay fixation at higher cells for outstanding candidates.
  6. The institute reserves the right to screen and call only those candidates deemed suitable for presentations followed by interviews. The eligibility criteria are only a bare minimum, and mere fulfilment of the same will not entitle any candidate to be called for an interview.
  7. The institute reserves the right not to fill any vacancy advertised without any reason. The decision of the Institute in all matters shall be final and binding. Legal disputes, if any, shall be settled in the Court of Law only within the jurisdiction of Thiruvananthapuram.
  8. The appointment as Assistant Professor Grade II will be of a contractual nature for a period of three years from the date of appointment. The performance of those who are appointed as Assistant Professor Grade II in academic level 10 will be assessed after a period of every one year from the date of appointment for consideration of the continuation of the contract. The Assistant Professor Grade II can be Assistant Professor Grade I only through regular open advertisements; there will not be any claim for regularisation upon completion of the contractual period.
  9. Those who are appointed as Assistant Professor Grade II will not be entitled to benefits as applicable for faculty appointed on regular cadres like Leave Travel Concession, Medical Reimbursement Facilities and NPS. However, their leave entitlement will be the same as applicable to regular faculty members.
  10. Where the number of applications received in response to the advertisement is large, the Institute reserves to restrict the number of candidates to be called for the selection process to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications and experience. The decision of the Institute in this regard shall be final.
