The role of candidate genes in the pathophysiology of endometriosis

Abstract : Endometriosis (MIM 131200) is a chronic gynecological disease characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue and glands on ectopic sites. Histologically, endometriosis is a benign disease but can behave like a malignancy in terms of growing, infiltrating and adhering to the surrounding tissues. The causes of endometriosis remain uncertain despite over 100 years of hypothesis-driven research. My doctoral & postdoctoral research has focused to explore whether alterations of tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) and mitochondrial genome can influence the pathophysiology of endometriosis.
