My research is in atmospheric science, with a focus on using observations in weather models to improve high-impact weather forecasts. My doctoral work centered on assimilating Doppler weather radar data into numerical weather prediction models to improve forecasts. In my postdoctoral research, I extended this work by using machine learning methods in ensemble data assimilation for background-error modeling.
At IISER-TVM, I am developing a research program that brings together atmospheric observations, data assimilation, numerical modeling, radar meteorology, and machine learning to improve convective-scale forecasts of extreme rainfall over India, particularly during the monsoon and in orographic rainfall systems
