Spin orbit coupling in graphene decorated with adatoms

Abstract : Graphene, the two dimensional allotrope of carbon, has gained much attention recently due its exceptional electronic properties. However, graphene's low spin- orbit interaction strongly limits its utilization in realizing several functional spintronics devices. It is therefore quite desirable to develop methods to tune the spin-otbit coupling strength. The introduction of adatoms on to the graphene lattice seems to be a promising method and in this talk some recent developments towards this direction will be discussed.
